Don Philip Ray

Don Philip Ray, 89, of Tyrone, passed away Thursday. He was born in Tyrone, son of the late Park and Charlotte (Weston) Ray.

Don was first married to Patricia Hand with whom he had four children: Patricia, Donna, Don II and Greg (Christy) Ray, who survive. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Adrienne, Hayden, Quinton and Garrett; four siblings: Beryl Nearhoof of Niagara Falls, Sarah Swartz and Roxanne Schultz of Tyrone, and Dale Ray of New York; and his companion of 47 years, Edith Newberry.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Park Ray and Cindy Rogers.

Don was a 1951 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a lifelong laborer and retired from American Eagle Paper Mill, formerly Westvaco, in 2000. He also worked at the local auto parts store and Scott's Lawncare as a mechanic when the papermill shut down.

Don was a life member of the Tyrone American Legion Post 281 and a member of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club. He was an avid racing and wrestling fan. He loved watching Tyrone and Steelers football, Penn State football and wrestling, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed doing gardening, reading and mechanical work.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. Services and interment will be made at the convenience of the family.
