‘A Man of Iron’ Review: Grover Cleveland, Honest to a Fault

In 1881, Grover Cleveland was a workaholic, 44-year-old bachelor lawyer in Buffalo, N.Y., living in a modest apartment above his firm. His pleasures were fishing, food in copious portions, and beer. Then he was coaxed by Democratic power brokers to run for mayor. Pledging frugality and honest administration, he won. The next year he ran for governor as an anti-machine reformer and won again.
