A deluxe coffee table book about the second season of House of the Dragon is coming

Nov 01, 2024

Last year, sometime after the conclusion of the first season of House of the Dragon, Insight Editions put out a book called Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon: Inside the Creation of a Targaryen Dynasty, all about the making of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series. That book included lots of behind-the-scenes images from the show, concept art, and interviews with the cast and crew courtesy of author Gina McIntyre, who was offered generous access to the set during filming.

Since then, the second season of the show has come and gone, ending back in August. Now, McIntyre and Insight Editions are back with a new book called Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon [Season 2]: Inside the Dawn of the Targaryen Civil War. Once again, McIntyre was given "unprecedented access" to the set at Leavesden Studios in England. Expect "exclusive insights," "in-depth interviews with showrunner Ryan Condal and the incredible cast and crew," and "a treasure trove of never-before-seen images, including concept designs for the show’s dragons, locations, and costumes, plus candid on-set photos."

Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon [Season 2]: Inside the Dawn of the Targaryen Civil War will be officially releases on December 3, although you can preorder a copy now. It could make the perfect holiday gift for the House of the Dragon fan in your life. And if that fan is you, that works too.

Maybe McIntyre and Insight Editions will team up again for a book all about the third season of House of the Dragon, which Condal and his team are working on as we speak. New episodes probably won't be out until sometime in 2026. In the meantime, HBO is readying a new Game of Thrones prequel series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set decades after the events of House of the Dragon but decades before Game of Thrones. That one will come along sometime in 2025, helping to bridge the gap. We've already seen what the set of that one looks like; maybe we'll get a behind-the-scenes book at some point as well.
